Chaos in Cambridge: Two seriously injured in Memorial Drive shootout |
Along the Charles River, in broad daylight, just a mile and a half from MIT and Harvard Square, 46-year-old Tyler Brown opened fire on Monday, wreaking havoc on a busy stretch of Memorial Drive in Cambridge. The scene at just after 1 p.m. was described by almost everyone as chaotic. Brown was walking right down the middle of the two-lane road, holding an assault rifle and acting erratically. All in all, he would fire off 50-60 rounds, aiming at vehicles. This all happened while people were literally leaving their cars and sprinting in every direction away from the danger. Some people even hid under their cars. |

| 2 NH residents were passengers on hantavirus-hit cruise ship |
Two New Hampshire residents are among the Americans who’d been aboard the hantavirus-stricken cruise ship Hondius, health officials said. Seventeen Americans returned to the country early Monday morning aboard a State Department plane with biocontainment units — two of the cruise ship passengers were in them “out of an abundance of caution,” the Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement. The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services said later Monday that two people with addresses in the Granite State had been on the cruise ship and have returned to the U.S. |

| Fallen Trooper Kevin Trainor's mother: ‘I just remember screaming for my son' |
| |
The grieving mother of fallen Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor visited the barracks where he worked to spend time inside his cruiser on Monday, days before his funeral. Barbara Trainor said the cruiser covered in flowers was her son’s police cruiser for the first few years on the job. She wanted to spend time in it before it was moved. “It just made us feel a connection to him,” said Trainor. “Try to see what he was going through every day. One of the troopers explaining everything to us, which was really nice. |

Warmer weather (70s & 80s) ahead. But first, some rain! |
We’re on a temperature slide in the next few days, with a huge, pattern-changing turnaround expected by the weekend. While sunshine will dominate today, we’re coming off a chilly morning, and highs will slowly work into the low 60s. That will likely get knocked back at the coast with the sea breeze engaging later in the afternoon. All in all, not a bad spring day, but certainly not a toasty one. Clouds are quickly approaching overnight with more expect tomorrow. A few sprinkles could pop up as we watch a slow-moving storm system take shape to our west and south. The steady rain will move in Thursday and Friday as this storm strengthens. While not a nor’easter, it could be qualified as a coastal storm – steady, gusty winds from the east/northeast and chilly temps in the 50s. And there is real potential for some beneficial rain from this two-day event. |

Miami police officers file lawsuit over Matt Damon and Ben Affleck movie ‘The Rip' |
Two Miami-Dade officers are suing over the recent Ben Affleck and Matt Damon movie “The Rip” claiming it has defamed them. Jason Smith and Jonathan Santana, sergeants in the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, are suing the stars’ production company as well as another production company over the film, which was released by Netflix in January. In the film, Affleck and Damon play officers in the Miami-Dade Police Department, now known as the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, who find millions in cash stashed inside a house. |
