Today: A minimalist and waist-cinching swimsuit. Plus …

An (actually good) one-piece swimsuit

This sleek, stylish one-piece — one of our favorites of the 54 swimsuits we tested — is a far cry from the deluge of uncomfortable, too-short, plain-Jane one-pieces out there.

The buttery-soft fabric is flattering and waist-snatching, without ever pinching or squeezing. It’s actually supportive (it didn’t budge while we swam laps in a pool), and the suit should last you far beyond the season.

One Wirecutter journalist puts it simply: “I reach for my one-piece when I just need a solid suit that I’m going to feel good in.”

Plus: A light-as-air caftan to throw on top

This breezy cotton caftan makes for an excellent swim cover-up. But it has also become writer Sam Schoech’s go-to uniform for working and lounging around the house. It’s a simple rectangle of fabric folded lengthwise and sewn down the sides, with a V-neck and a drawstring waist. That’s it. Yet, 10 years and five caftans later, Sam finds them as stylish as ever.

Your daily deal: Vintage-inspired sneakers

Autry Windspin Sneakers

These laid-back sneakers come in a range of colorful hues. They have a trendy low-profile, and the suede and leather exterior adds some extra oomph to the design. Said one tester: “They don’t look like every other slim shoe out there.”

Gift of the week: A fancy fountain pen

This sleek fountain pen makes writing even simple to-do lists that much more special. A grown-up version of an everyday essential, it would make a great gift for new grads.

One last thing: How to find the perfect swimsuit for you

On a recent episode of The Wirecutter Show, style expert Zoe Vanderweide shared what to look for when shopping for high-quality swimwear — and how to keep your suits in great shape. For instance, if you’re hanging your swimsuits to dry, please stop. There’s a better way to care for ’em.
