Thanks for asking about the bookshelf project. I ended up using birch plywood for the main structure since it takes stain really well and is pretty sturdy. The design is a simple floor to ceiling unit with five adjustable shelves. I cut all the pieces at home using a circular saw with a straight edge guide. The most challenging part was getting the shelf pins aligned perfectly so everything stays level. I applied a coat of pre stain conditioner before staining to avoid blotchy spots. The color I went with is a warm walnut shade which matches the other furniture in the room nicely. Assembly took about a full weekend including drying time for the stain. I added some LED strip lighting under the top shelf which gives it a nice glow at night. The whole thing is anchored to the wall for safety since it is quite tall. I wanted to share how the vegetable garden turned out this season. I planted tomatoes peppers cucumbers and green beans in raised beds this year. The soil preparation made a big difference compared to last year. I mixed in compost and aged manure a few weeks before planting. The tomatoes are doing especially well with the cage supports I built. I am getting about a dozen ripe ones every few days now. The cucumber trellis worked great for saving space and keeping the fruit clean. I used drip irrigation on a timer which helped maintain consistent moisture during the hot weeks. One lesson I learned is to space the pepper plants a bit further apart next time for better air circulation. The green beans produced heavily for about three weeks straight. I have been freezing the extras so we can enjoy them through the winter. Overall it has been a rewarding experience and I am already planning some changes for next year.
