| | | Hello. US President Donald Trump has threatened further attacks on Iran - we'll bring you the latest. From inside rebel-held territory, international correspondent Quentin Sommerville reports on how Myanmar's civil war is unfolding. And take a look at a footprint from one of the world's longest dinosaur trackways. | | | | | | |
| TOP OF THE AGENDA | | Trump threatens Iran with fresh strikes | | | | | 'We hit them [Iran] hard yesterday and we're going to hit them hard again today,' Trump told reporters. Credit: EPA | | The US will hit Iran "hard" on Wednesday, Trump has said, while Iran's president said his country would "stand firm against any pressure or threat". The US president also reiterated a call for Iran to "sign a deal". It comes after the two sides exchanged strikes overnight. Separately on Wednesday, India said three of its sailors are missing after their oil tanker was hit off the coast of Oman. The US military said it struck the vessel, accusing it of violating America's blockade of Iranian ports. Meanwhile in Lebanon, the country's media reported that 17 people had been killed in Israeli air strikes, while Iran-backed Hezbollah said it carried out more attacks on Israeli troops occupying parts of the country's south. | | | | | | | | |

| | | | | Bago and Karen state, Myanmar | | | | Inside Myanmar, rebels are losing ground as military forces men into army | | | Rebel fighters say that compared to the military, their resources are constrained. | | Five years of civil war has torn Myanmar apart, with thousands killed and millions displaced. Two years on from a string of victories, the rebels are now on the defensive with the military's forced conscription policy shifting the junta's fortunes. The BBC travelled to Myanmar without the permission of the authorities – the only way to report from rebel-held territory - to see how the war was unfolding. | | | | | | Quentin Sommerville, international correspondent | | | | | | The four young men in the rebel camp hidden deep in jungle-covered mountains never wanted a part in Myanmar's civil war. They didn't choose to be soldiers for the military either. One had been a chef on his way home from work when he was grabbed off the street. His lack of ID was enough for the military to detain him and force him to sign up. Another was taken on his way back from a late-night karaoke session; a third had been working for the forestry department when he was arrested. The fourth man says on being arrested, drugs were slipped into his shoe, and he was framed and made to enlist.
"Before we even understood what was happening, we were sent straight to the front lines," one of them says. | | | | | | | | | - Min Aung Hlaing: The coup leader who set off the civil war has become president, but, our correspondent writes, it's civilian rule in name only.
