The reason most people never fix their money is that they try to fix all of it on a Sunday night.
You know the spiral.
You finally work up the nerve to look, you see the whole mess at once: the cards, the credit, the savings that don't exist, and it's so overwhelming that you close the laptop and promise to "really start" next month.
The size of the whole thing becomes the excuse to do nothing.
Or worse…
Do something dumb.
There’s a movie I watched a while back called, Indecent Proposal.
In the story, there’s a couple who hit the exact opposite of the financial lottery.
Out of money and about to lose their house, they get pretty desperate.
So when a rich dude offers them $1M dollars to sleep with the wife, they decide to take him up for the cash…
And you can probably see where this is going.
It’s a great movie you should definitely watch, but the lesson can be transferred to your money.
Because how many of us have taken out a loan to try and move up in life, only to realize they’ve basically made a deal with the devil?
You get behind on one loan, so you take out another, then you max out your card, so you get another, and on and on.
It's a vicious cycle.
And getting out of that type of hole is doable. But it’s not easy.
Chances are you aren’t going to win the lottery or sleep with someone for $1M bucks. So what are you supposed to do?
Well, this may shock you, but nobody fixes their money all at once.
(Not even me, back when I was starting out.)
They knock over one domino.
One small win proves to you the situation isn't hopeless.
And that first domino isn't about the dollars, really. It's about the evidence that you're capable of changing the trajectory.
That momentum builds and eventually you pay off the bad debt.
Which is why I like a consolidation loan as a starting domino for some people.
It combines everything into one place and rebuilds your score with payments you're actually able to make.
And watching that number tick up for the first time does something really important psychologically.
It turns "I'm bad with money" into "wait, I can figure this out."
You don't need the whole plan today. You just need one thing to go right.

It’s free and won’t impact your score.
But it might impact your momentum.
