Q. Am I eligible to apply? A. To apply, you must be:
- United States citizen, national, or permanent resident
- Fully licensed, credentialed in an eligible discipline, a registered SUD professional
- Full-time employee at a STAR LRP-approved facility
Q. Is my site a STAR LRP-approved facility? A. Visit the Health Workforce Connector to find out if your site or other sites in your state or area are STAR LRP-approved facilities.
Q. Are taxes withheld from the award amount? A. Yes. Federal taxes will be withheld from the amount prior to your award disbursement. You should consult with your tax advisor to determine whether state taxes will be withheld from your award as each state is different.
Q. How can I show proof of my name change? A. You can upload a court-approved document, such as a marriage license or divorce decree as a supporting document. You must list your former name in your application. Review the Application Checklist, which includes additional information about supporting documentation.
Q. What loans are eligible for repayment? A. STAR LRP applicants must have eligible post-secondary or higher educational loans. Eligible loans are:
- Any loan for education or training for a SUD treatment employment.
- Any loan under part E of title VIII of the Public Health Service Act referring to nursing student loans.
- Any Federal Direct Stafford Loan, Federal Direct PLUS Loan, Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, or Federal Direct Consolidation Loan.
- Any Federal Perkins Loan under Part E of title I of the Higher Edication Act of 1965.
