We went up last weekend and the weather was surprisingly clear, though the elevation made it a bit windy near the top. The fire road is still closed for maintenance, so you will want to take the single-track route from the ranger station. I would recommend starting early, around 6:30 or 7, because the afternoon fog rolls in fast once you get above the tree line. There is plenty of parking near the old lodge. You will need to bring layers, since the temperature swings about fifteen degrees from base to summit. I hope that helps with your planning.

I looked into the community garden plot you mentioned and the coordinator said the waitlist is about three weeks long for a raised bed. They have a couple of partial-shade spots near the tool shed that open up sooner if you do not mind limited sun exposure.
