I think your idea for the raised beds along the south fence makes sense because the tomatoes and peppers will get full sun there. For the herbs I would suggest putting them closer to the shed so they are easier to reach with the hose. The soil needs to be tested first since I remember the previous owner used some treatments on the lawn. You can pick up a test kit at the hardware store. Let me know if you want help turning the soil next weekend.
Also if we add a small gravel path down the center it will keep things tidy when it rains. I have a bag of landscape fabric left over from my yard project that you can have for the bottom of the beds. Just let me know when you want to start.

I checked the calendar and the third weekend of next month looks open for most people. We have about twelve volunteers confirmed so far. Assigning teams of three to each section of the park cleanup would let us cover more ground. The city already said they will provide bags and gloves. I think starting at eight in the morning gives us enough time before the heat sets in. We should ask everyone to bring a water bottle. I can send a signup sheet later this week to finalize the groups.
Also the picnic area near the playground has a good shaded spot for a refreshment table. If someone wants to bring fruit and granola bars that would be nice for break time. Let me know what you think about the team assignments.
