Thanks for asking about the trail conditions near the lodge. I was just up there last weekend and the switchbacks are in decent shape but a few sections near the ridge are still muddy from the spring melt. I would recommend starting early and bringing trekking poles for the steeper parts. The parking lot at the main trailhead fills up by about eight thirty so you will want to arrive before then. There is a shorter loop that cuts across the meadow if you are short on time but the full ridge hike offers better views of the lake. I saw a pair of deer near the creek crossing and the wildflowers are starting to bloom along the southern slope. The ranger station has updated maps and can tell you about any recent trail maintenance or closures. I think you will really enjoy the hike if you go this weekend. Let me know if you need more specific directions or want to borrow my gear.
The weather forecast looks favorable with partly cloudy skies and a high near seventy two degrees. I would still pack a light rain jacket just in case. There are a few picnic tables at the summit if you want to bring lunch and take in the scenery. The descent is gradual so it should not be hard on your knees. I plan to go again next month when the berries are ripe.

Regarding the community garden plot assignment I looked into the availability for the raised beds near the pavilion. There are still two plots open on the south side those get excellent sunlight through the afternoon. The coordinator mentioned that the compost delivery is scheduled for next Thursday so you will want to have your soil mix ready by then. I reserved a plot last season and found that the water spigots are conveniently located and the tool shed access is included. If you want to grow tomatoes or peppers the south-facing beds are ideal. The garden committee asks that each plot holder contribute two hours of maintenance per month which is manageable. I think you would enjoy the community there are several experienced gardeners who share tips and seedlings. The sign-up form is online and the fee covers the full growing season. Let me know if you want me to send you the link to the reservation system or if you have questions about soil preparation.
I also heard that they are adding a few new trellis structures for climbing plants and the pathways are being widened for easier access. The water schedule is every other day during the summer months so you will not need to worry about drought stress. I am planning to expand my own plot this year with more herbs and perhaps a small pumpkin patch. The soil pH in that area tested well last fall so you should not need major amendments.
