While patriotic Americans celebrate our nation's 250th birthday, Democratic socialists are making their move.

In New York, Darializa Avila Chevalier, an open-borders democratic socialist who has called the United States a "f-----g disgrace," just won her congressional primary. She has advocated abolishing borders, prisons, and policing "full stop," and still maintains that "all deportations are wrong."

Another New York Democrat, Claire Valdez, a democratic socialist endorsed by socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani, won her primary. Valdez wants to nationalize the airline industry and has pushed to abolish ICE while prioritizing so-called "Palestinian liberation."

And in Colorado, Melat Kiros, a DSA-aligned socialist, defeated a longtime incumbent. Kiros has described the 9/11 attacks as an "inevitable" result of U.S. actions in the Middle East and called the October 7 Hamas massacre an "inevitable consequence of apartheid."

While these radicals advance in safe Democratic districts, Republican voter enthusiasm is lagging in many polls, with Democrats showing higher energy heading into the midterms.

If these trends continue unchecked, the socialist wing could gain even more power in Congress, pushing policies that threaten our borders, economy, and national identity.

This July 4th, we celebrate 250 years since the founding of the greatest, freest, and most prosperous nation in history. For two and a half centuries, the United States has stood as the beacon of liberty, opportunity, and moral clarity.

But freedom isn't guaranteed. If conservatives grow complacent, that legacy of prosperity and self-government could come to an abrupt end.
