DVSA has authorised its first Vehicle Examination Facility (VEF) – a significant milestone in our transformation of the vehicle approvals service.
Ship My Car, based in Milton Keynes, is our first VEF and will start testing in the coming weeks.
VEFs are third-party sites where DVSA specialist vehicle standards assessors (SVSAs) will conduct Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) and Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) examinations.
The first authorised site will be ready to receive customers in the coming weeks.
If you need an IVA or MSVA examination, whether for a vehicle that has not been type-approved to European standards, one that has been radically altered, or one built from a mixture of parts from previously registered vehicles, VEFs will make accessing that service easier.
Testing will take place closer to where your vehicle is built or modified, rather than requiring you to travel to a DVSA site. This could save you significant time and cost.
- reduced travel costs, with potential savings on fuel and time
- environmental benefits – cutting down vehicle mileage travelled annually
- using our digital platform MyVT to apply, pay and book examinations via self-service
- flexible booking options which will give you greater control over your schedule
IVA and MSVA tests will continue to be conducted by DVSA SVSAs. The VEF model simply brings those examiners to more accessible, locally based sites – similar to how heavy vehicle annual testing is already carried out at Authorised Testing Facilities (ATFs).
As more sites are authorised, the network will grow to provide even greater coverage across the country. DVSA will communicate this as new sites are authorised.
