NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) is responsible for the stewardship and management of the National Marine Sanctuary System, a network of 18 underwater parks, encompassing more than 620,000 square miles of ocean and Great Lakes waters. ONMS aims to protect the extraordinary scenic beauty, biodiversity, historical connections, recreational value, and economic productivity of these areas so they may continue to serve as the basis for thriving recreation, tourism and commercial activities that drive coastal economies.  

Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary encompasses 3,295 square miles of marine waters off the northern and central California coast. It supports an abundance of life, including many threatened and endangered species. The offshore 1,286 square mile Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary protects soft seafloor habitat, a rocky bank, deep sea canyons, and diverse communities of wildlife.

As a Supervisory Sanctuary Superintendent, you will perform the following duties:

• Develop and implement site-based sanctuary program functions and collaborate with government and non-government entities and stakeholders in support of sanctuary programs and policies.
• Direct the day-to-day implementation and execution of the organization's administrative and financial operations, to include multiyear and longer budget and agreements.
• Carry out policies and purposes of the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, relevant presidential proclamations, executive orders, and oversee development of plans and programs for both short and long time frames to conserve, protect, enhance, restore, investigate, and manage sanctuary resources through research and outreach.
• Exercise supervisory authority over site-based sanctuary program staff and manage the human resources functions and staffing planning for programs.
