When are you making pants?
The short answer is: not anytime soon.
When we started Son of a Tailor, we had one product. One T-shirt. Four colours.
Not because we lacked ideas, but because we believed we had to earn the right to make more. If customers didn't trust that first T-shirt enough to come back, nothing else mattered. So we stayed focused. Much longer than most brands would have.
That approach hasn't changed.
Every product we've introduced since then has built on something we already understand deeply. We don't expand because an opportunity exists. We expand when we're convinced we can make something we're genuinely proud of.
That's why we don't make pants.
Not because they aren't interesting, but because they're fundamentally different.
The fit is more complex. Preferences vary enormously. And doing it properly would require a completely different production setup and years of learning.
The worst thing we could do is make pants that are almost right.
We've never believed in building a bigger collection for the sake of it. We'd rather spend another year improving the products we already make than launch something before it's ready. That's a slower way to build a company. But it's also the reason we've earned the trust of so many returning customers.
Will we ever make pants?
Only if we believe we can make them with the same level of confidence, care and quality that defines everything else we do.
Until then, we'll keep focusing on becoming better at what we already know.
I think that's how you build a brand that lasts.
