What to Watch
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is in theatres this weekend with Tom Holland back as Peter Parker, who's still weighing the great power that comes with great responsibility. Director Destin Daniel Cretton, new to the Spidey brand, kicks off the film by unleashing a series of action scenes – but as critic Barry Hertz writes, “…you check your watch and realize that there are still 120 minutes to go, and this Brand New Day starts to resemble the same old week.

Alas, some good news is on the horizon. Canadian director Matt Johnson’s forthcoming Anthony Bourdain biopic, Tony, is a movable feast, writes Hertz. (But eager Bourdain fans will have to wait a couple weeks to catch it in theatres: the film opens in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver on August 14 before a wider release on August 21.)
