The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office on Women’s Health (OWH), has awarded the third and final phase winners in the HHS Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals (EDC) Innovator Award Competition: Innovative Methods to Address the Impact of Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals on Black or African American Women. This national competition was developed to identify gaps in knowledge and innovative solutions to improving Black women’s health by reducing endocrine-disrupting chemicals exposure risk.

The competition identified and awarded programs that demonstrate effectiveness, sustainability, and the ability to replicate or expand interventions that address gaps in knowledge and provide solutions to reduce endocrine-disrupting chemicals exposure risk for women, including Black women. During Phase 1, HHS identified programs with innovative approaches to reducing the associated exposure risks of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Phase 2 focused on demonstrating the program's effectiveness by increasing knowledge and reducing the risk of endocrine-disrupting chemicals exposure.

The Phase 3 winners successfully:

  • Increased knowledge about endocrine-disrupting chemicals and ways to reduce exposure.
  • Expanded and replicated effective community-based programs.
  • Developed sustainability plans to ensure their work continues to benefit women and girls beyond the competition.

This competition supports innovative, practical solutions that help women make informed decisions about their health while advancing efforts to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals in everyday life.
