Dear GBW Families,
Mrs. Odom and I are excited to welcome our Panda families back for our Open House and Welcome Back Picnic on Thursday, August 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Open House is a wonderful opportunity to visit Greenbriar West before the first day of school.
Families are invited to:
- Meet your child's teacher
- Visit your child's classroom
- Meet the principals and other GBW staff
- Drop off school supplies and other classroom materials
We're also excited to once again partner with our amazing PTA to host our Welcome Back Picnic on the blacktop outside Door #5. We will be serving complimentary all-beef hot dogs for our families.
To help manage parking and building traffic, we encourage families to attend during the following times based on your last name:
Open House Schedule
- 11:00–11:45 a.m.: Last Names A–M
- 11:45–12:30 p.m.: Last Names N–Z
- 12:30–1:00 p.m.: Everyone is invited to gather outside for the Welcome Back Picnic with our staff.
We hope you'll join us as we kick off another fantastic school year together. We can't wait to see everyone and welcome our Pandas back to GBW!

Early Release Wednesdays for 2026-27
FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year, however the number has been reduced from eight to four days.
Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

GBW 2026-2027 Kiss 'n Ride Application Form & Reminders
If you ever plan on picking up or dropping off your student for arrival and dismissal for the 2026-2027 school year using our Kiss and Ride line, please complete the Kiss and Ride Form with your carload (such as household, carpool, or private daycare) and list all students. If you are a bus rider / walker who will occasionally use the Kiss and Ride line, we also encourage you to complete the form. We will plan to pass out Kiss and Ride cards at Open House to all families who have completed this form prior to Open House on Thursday, August 20th. Forms completed after Open House will be sent home in your Thursday folders. Signing up and displaying your Kiss and Ride numbers earlier in the school year, will help our GBW staff to speed up our Kiss and Ride line- thank you for helping to speed up our K&R line.
Kiss and Ride Reminders:

Arrival Times: 9:00 – 9:20 a.m. Kiss and Ride line is open (Door #8). At 9:20 a.m., the tardy bell rings, the kiss 'n ride line promptly closes, and any remaining students and their parents must report to the main office to sign in via the front doors.

Dismissal Times: 4:05 – 4:20 p.m. In the afternoon, students will be dismissed from the gym between 4:05 – 4:20 p.m. After 4:20 p.m. any remaining students that have not been picked up will be sent to the main office for parent/guardian sign out/pickup.

Safety Reminders: It is extremely important that students get in and out of their cars in a safe and timely manner; therefore, students must exit and enter cars on the curb/school side only. Families are reminded to obey all traffic safety laws and drive cautiously on and near our property knowing that we have hundreds of students dismissing at the same time.

Students should memorize K&R #: Your child will need to memorize their Kiss and Ride number. Daycare buses, such as KinderCare or High Kicks, are called by name and location. Make sure your child is aware of this information.

K&R Cards Visibility: We ask you to place the card visibly on your car dashboard every afternoon during dismissal. Kindergarten families will receive an additional alternate colored "kiss 'n ride" number to easily identify their kindergarten student.
