Improving Sidewalk Access For Safety
Fairfax City crews are trimming and removing all vegetation along public walkways that obstructs visibility and encroaches on public access.
The city maintains a four‑foot‑wide, eight‑foot‑high clearance to keep sidewalks accessible and reduce sightline issues.
Property owners are asked to ensure trees and shrubs do not obstruct sidewalks. Right‑of‑way maintenance runs through September. To report concerns and request services, please use Fairfax City Resolve.

Utilities Serving Fairfax City - Where to Turn in an Emergency
It's important to know who to contact when something breaks or a service is interrupted.
The City of Fairfax government maintains public roads, stormwater and wastewater infrastructure, parks, and municipal buildings and properties.
Utility companies provide services like water, electricity, TV/internet, and natural gas. These companies offer a variety of ways for customers to report problems and receive notifications when scheduled or emergency work is happening near your home.
Residents are encouraged to subscribe to utility companies' alerts, download their smartphone apps, and bookmark their webpages. This is a simple action you can take now before an emergency occurs.

Join a Community Celebration at Draper Drive Park, Aug. 18
The Aliver Foundation, in partnership with the City of Fairfax, Va., will host a family-friendly community celebration at Draper Drive Park at 9797 Beech Drive from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18. The Foundation will donate highly visible, bright yellow, all-weather, climate-controlled, outdoor AED equipment.
The event will offer something for all ages, including children’s activities, an interactive CPR/AED demonstration by the City of Fairfax Fire Department, opportunities to meet first responders from the City of Fairfax Fire Department and Police Department, as well as a touch-a-truck featuring their emergency response vehicles.

Presentations and Proclamations
- Mayor Catherine Read presented a proclamation acknowledging July as Parks and Recreation Month and presented a commendation certificate acknowledging Katherine MacCammon for her creativity and design of the city’s VA 250 logo.
Consent Agenda
- Approved a contract award to Brailsford & Dunlavey, Inc. to serve as an owner’s representative for school construction projects including but not limited to the renovation and additions to Providence Elementary School, Daniels Run Elementary School, and the roof replacement at Fairfax High School. Work includes assisting City of Fairfax Schools in managing projects through pre-design, design, and construction phases.
- Appointed the following applicants to city boards and commissions:
- Sucha Khamsuwan to the Board of Architectural Review as the Architect and Business Representative
- Amini Bonane to the Commission for Women
- Brenda Kuhlman to the Commission for Women

Public Hearings
- Approved an ordinance amending Chapter 110 (Zoning), to amend portions of Articles and Sections contained therein, including introductory provisions, zoning districts and regulations, and definitions relating to detached accessory dwelling units. Work Session
- Held a pre-application briefing on a request by Network Realty Partners for the redevelopment of 3541 Chain Bridge Road. The developer proposes replacing two, two-story office buildings with 37 residential dwelling units consisting of 29 townhouses and eight, two-over-two multifamily units with a maximum building height of four stories and a 2,730-square-foot freestanding retail building, and 88 parking spaces on 2.09 +/- acres. - Discussed a request by Combined Courthouse LLC C/O Combined Columbia Glade, LLC -20049 for the redevelopment of 10300 Willard Way and 3922 Blenheim Boulevard. The developer proposes a phased redevelopment with a six-story multifamily residential building consisting of 315 multifamily units and 12,500 square feet of first-floor retail and demolition of 25,000 square feet of retail in the first phase. Phase 2 would replace the remaining retail and surface parking with a mixed-use building including 315 multifamily units and 50,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. View the slide deck.
