Is this the moment the tide turns? Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowsky just announced that she will vote against Trump’s personal lawyer Todd Blanche for Attorney General.
Maine’s Senator Susan Collins said she will vote against Blanche. Louisiana’s Bill Cassidy is leaning that way. If those three vote against Blanche, his nomination is dead. If Mitch McConnell, who has been in the hospital for weeks (months?) is well enough to get to the chamber to vote for Blanche, it goes through. The GOP is doing everything they can to make McConnell seem healthy—we’ve seen the AI photo— so that he can be in the chamber to vote. They will wheel McConnell in and prop him up.
Murkowski put it brilliantly:
“I am also keenly aware that the department’s nearly $2-billion dollar slush fund — which likely would have rewarded January 6 protesters — is only off the table because this nomination is pending and the Senate has leverage. Once we vote, that will end, and there is no telling what the future holds. The politicization — even weaponization — of the department did not start with this administration but has accelerated during it,” Murkowski said in a statement.
“I take issue with the handling of the release of the Epstein files; the sweeping immunity protections granted to the president, his family, and their businesses; the statements that have been made to anti-abortion groups; and the repeated targeting of individuals ranging from former administration staff to sitting U.S. senators. No telling what the future will hold.”
Blanche as Attorney General is perhaps the worst thing for our democracy yet. He can remain acting AG, sadly, for as long as Trump wants. But I am hoping this is a moment.

In my live session the other day, I talked about creating a drawing based on an unformed idea inspired by the small surge of primarily youth-supported progressive/socialists winning primaries lately. I showed how it could be done in various scenes of different kinds, with different people. I mused that you could even do animals saying something on the topic! The one below was what I came up with after several attempts, then I changed it again to the above. Which works better for you?
