Good afternoon, Cedar Lane Community!
We hope you have all had a restful, fun-filled summer break so far! While it always seems to fly by, the countdown to the 2026–2027 school year is officially on. We are thrilled to welcome all of our students back to the building for the first day of school on Monday, August 24th!
Behind the scenes, our administrative team, custodial crew, and staff are hard at work putting the finishing touches on the building, organizing schedules, and preparing our facilities to ensure we are ready for a smooth, successful opening. As we enjoy these final weeks of summer, now is the ideal time to start making the transition back into a school routine. We can’t wait to fill our hallways with energy, learning, and community once again.
Enjoy these remaining days of summer break, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, August 24th!
With excitement for the school year ahead,
The Staff of Cedar Lane School

Dear Cedar Lane Families,
As we prepare for another wonderful school year, we have an important request.
The Cedar Lane PTSA is in urgent need of a Treasurer and a Secretary for the upcoming school year. Without volunteers to fill these positions, our ability to continue supporting the students, staff, and programs that make Cedar Lane so special will be greatly impacted.
If you've ever wondered where PTSA fundraising dollars go, the answer is simple-they go right back to our school and our children.
Last year alone, the PTSA proudly funded and supported:
-
Finished Fridays, providing the special monthly lunches students earned by staying caught up on their work
-
Senior scholarships for graduating students
-
Staff Appreciation events to recognize the incredible educators and staff who care for our children every day
-
Cedar Fest, one of our favorite community celebrations
-
Field trips and other student enrichment opportunities
- Ongoing purchases that help meet needs throughout the school year
The PTSA exists to make Cedar Lane an even better place for our children to learn, grow, and thrive and we simply can't do it without parent and family involvement.
The good news? These board positions are not nearly as time-consuming as many people think. We meet virtually just once a month, and our board works together as a team. You do not need to be an expert, and you won't be doing it alone. We promise to provide support every step of the way.** Please contact Ms Min (jmmin1@fcps.edu) if you would be able to fill one of these positions.
If Cedar Lane has made a difference in your child's life, this is a meaningful way to give back and ensure these valuable programs continue for all of our students.
Please consider saying "yes." Your time and talents can have a lasting impact on our school community.
More information will be coming soon about how to join the PTSA, volunteer, and make donations to support our mission.
Thank you for helping us continue the traditions and opportunities that make Cedar Lane such a special place.
With gratitude,
The Cedar Lane PTSA

We’re Eager to Welcome You Back to School!
As summer winds down, we are looking forward to welcoming students back to our classrooms. Use the following list to help make sure your child is ready!
☑️ Sign Up for SIS ParentVUE
Access your student’s attendance records, grades, and assignments at any time with SIS ParentVUE. Contact our registrars at KAWilliams1@fcps.edu // (703) 208-2407 (Ms. Williams) or MCStrait@fcps.edu // (703) 208-2412 (Ms. Strait) if you need an activation code. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
Update Your Contact Information
Be sure you receive important information! Update your phone number(s) and/or email address(es) by clicking “My Account” and reviewing the “Online Verification/Update.” On that form, you can also update immunization records, health information, and emergency contacts.
☑️ Update Immunizations and Records
Immunizations are required for all students to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of protecting them from certain diseases and keeping them healthy.
When your child is immunized, remember to request a copy of their immunization record and bring that to our front office or submit the record via SIS ParentVUE as soon as possible. Find more information on FCPS’ website.
☑️ Learn About School Meals
Families need to provide their children with money to purchase meals at school or send them with a packed lunch. Alternatively, families may apply to receive free and reduced-price meal benefits, pending approval.
☑️ Bookmark the School Year Calendar
Be sure to bookmark the FCPS school year calendar to keep track of school holidays, breaks, and observances:
- Days marked blue with an “H” are student holidays. Schools are closed on these days.
- Days marked orange with an “O” are religious and cultural observance days (or evenings, if only half marked). There is school on these days, but certain events that cannot be made up may not be scheduled on these days.
- Days marked as TW, SD, and SP and in pink are holidays for students but working days for teachers and staff.
Please note that some holidays and observances, such as Eid al Fitr, may shift, and the calendar may be adjusted.

New Student ID Cards Coming for Bus Riders This Fall
As part of the ongoing commitment to strengthening layered safety and security programs, FCPS will implement a new student ID system for students who ride our school buses.
The implementation of the student IDs is designed as an additional safety measure for our 130,000 FCPS students who ride the bus each day, ensuring they are on the right bus and that they get on and off at the correct bus stop, as well as making sure only authorized students are on our buses.
The IDs will be provided to students who ride the bus. Those students will be expected to tap on and tap off the bus. The student IDs do not track student movement. The only information available is when a student taps on or off a bus. Much like our Here Comes the Bus app, our new app will allow parents/guardians to track the progress of the school bus.
It is possible that the ID program will expand in the future to include uses such as library cards and meal payment. Learn more about the new transportation system and student ID cards.
