2026-27 FCPS School Calendar

• August 20: Back to School Bash, 5:00-7:00 pm

• August 24: First day of school for the 2026-27 school year.

• September 17: Back to School Night

Good evening, Herndon Elementary Families,

As we enter the final weeks of summer, our team is working thoughtfully to ensure every student begins the school year feeling welcomed, supported, and ready to thrive.

This week, we continued monitoring enrollment and class sizes, finalizing instructional schedules, and planning supports for multilingual learners and students receiving special education services. We also worked with our kindergarten team, reviewed school health priorities, and prepared for our upcoming back-to-school events.

We were especially proud to support one of our fifth-grade student leaders, as she participated in the FCPS AVID panel at George Mason University. She spoke thoughtfully about how organization and college and career readiness help students succeed in elementary school and beyond. Our AVID student leader represented the Herndon Elementary community with confidence and pride.

We are also pleased to welcome our newest assistant principal to the Hive:

• Dr. Lawrence Randolph, assistant principal (see the eNotify that went out at 1PM for more details)

Our team continues to coordinate closely with FCPS staff and community partners regarding ongoing construction and school operations. The cafeteria is expected to be ready for the first day of school. Parking lot work remains delayed, and we are exploring additional parking options with a local community partner. The connection between the new wing and the main building is tentatively expected to open the week before Labor Day weekend. We will continue to share updates as plans are confirmed.

• Back-to-School Bash and Open House: Thursday, August 20, 5:00–7:00 p.m.

• Welcome Walk: Friday, August 21, 12:00–3:00 p.m.

• First Day of School: Monday, August 24

• Back-to-School Night: Thursday, September 17, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Back-to-School Night will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and will include several family choice sessions before classroom visits. Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks.
