Those who returned from their education in America, Canada or Britain were often held in high esteem and paid handsomely. But no longer. Returnees are increasingly looked at suspiciously by employers, who fear they could be unruly, or even spies. Meanwhile Chinese universities are climbing the global rankings. Chinese students’ waning interest in studying abroad will cause pain both at
home and in the West.
