Practice Schedule for the Week
Coaches have the right to adjust the schedule as they see fit, so make sure you are getting whatever communication comes from your program. Many of our programs have varying time schedules for practice as all our programs work together to maximize practice space and utilize our facilities equally.
Booster Club Update
Our Booster Club Board is small but mighty! We can use all the help, so if you are interested in supporting our student athletes and the Boosters efforts, let us know and we can get you connected. There are plenty of opportunities to help and even if you think your skillset is not useful, we can find a way to make it useful!
The Booster Club handles all things concessions which is the single largest source of income for our athletics budget. FCPS does not supply a yearly budget, so outside of buses and officials, we have to fundraise for everything else. The Boosters and their efforts, allow us the ability to purchase all the things that our student athletes need and want. Some of their recent purchases include the windscreens around our facilities, the baseball turtle and supporting our youth clinics.
Our Booster Club joined with several other people to donate money to cover almost 150 Hayfield students' entry into the Girls Region Basketball semifinal to support our ladies!
We are always looking for volunteers and new folks with no ideas, so please feel free to reach out.

Athletes of the Week
We had an incredible year for the 2025-2026 school year. Some of the highlights:
Call for Coaches
We are currently looking to fill a couple of head coaching positions for this school year as well. We need the following coaches and are accepting applications for next school year:
Please apply if interested by sending your resume to Drickey at dmdrickey@fcps.edu and applying online at the appropriate link below:
New Registration Platform for Athletics and Activities
We are now using Final Forms for all things sports and activity registrations. You should have received an email from Final Forms to the enrolling parents email address inviting you to register. If you have not received it, and you have checked your junk and spam folders, please reach out and let us know. We will have it resent to you or figure out why you have not seen it.
Welcome Our New ADSA
We have completed the trifecta in the Student Activities Office! We have finally hired a new Assistant Director of Student Activities to fully staff our Office.
When you see him, please welcome Jack Blevins BACK to Hayfield. Jack is a former student athlete and alumni, making our Office the only one in FCPS (and maybe anywhere) that has an entire staff of alumni at their school. Jack joins us having served most recently as the interim DSA at Woodson High School. Jack has previously worked in the County as a teacher, ADSA and football coach.
As a student athlete at Hayfield, he was a decorated member of our football team and a member of our SGA. He went on to play college football at Clarion University, where he was recognized by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference as a scholar athlete award winner.
Jack is looking forward to giving back to the community that helped raise him and make him the man he is today. He wants to replicate the role models he had walking the halls here at Hayfield in his new role and has already hit the ground running.
Welcome back Jack!
Welcome Our New Field Hockey Coach
We are excited to welcome another Hawk alumni to a new role! Our new field hockey varsity head coach will be Eimy Alvarado. Eimy has worked with our field hockey and girls soccer programs the last couple of years and is excited to step into her new role leading the field hockey program.
Welcome Our New Cross Country Coach
We are fortunate to have secured the commitment from Chris Humphrey as our new cross country coach this year. Chris joins us having coached cross country and track at the Edmund Burke School in DC, Whitmer High School in Ohio, and Notre Dame University of Maryland.
He is excited to share his wealth of knowledge and love of cross country with our student athletes and has brought forth some exciting new ideas!
Welcome Our “New” Indoor/Outdoor Track Coach
We are taking the interim title off Coach Faith Ham’s name and excited that she will be our new head coach for both our indoor and outdoor track program. She has stepped in several times when coaching changes occurred so it was an easy transition.
Coach Ham is excited to jump in and continue molding the culture of our program and continue to help our student athletes see success. We are excited to have a little continuity and normalness with our track program and are looking forward to their future successes.
New for FCPS at Football Games This Fall
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is taking additional steps this year to help ensure that our athletic events remain safe for students, families, staff, and community members by introducing security screenings of all spectators at our varsity football games.
We will be using the existing weapons screening systems that our students pass through every morning in our schools. In addition, we will be implementing a standardized bag policy to help support a smooth and efficient entry process. Students, family members, and all spectators are reminded that the following items are prohibited:
Approved bags are limited to:
As a reminder, middle-school students and younger, must be accompanied by a responsible adult who remains with the student(s) at the event.

Hayfield Chamber Orchestra Selected
The Hayfield Chamber Orchestra has been selected to perform at the 2026 Virginia Music Educators Association State conference in November. This is only the second time in Hayfield history that one of our performing groups has been invited to perform at the conference. The orchestra and Ms. Shelfo are incredibly excited for the opportunity and will be presenting a preview performance in early November that will be open to the whole Hayfield community.
Congratulations Ms. Shelfo and our amazing Chamber Orchestra! We are so proud of you for this opportunity/recognition and the amazing concerts you give us every year!
Coach Drickey’s Thoughts and Ramblings
I urge you to take advantage of our Booster Club passes and gain entrance to all home regular season contests for the price of your membership. With that in mind, the expectation is that fans are coming to support and cheer for our team and our students, while making sure that we don’t make negative comments to officials or our opponents.
We are excited for our student athletes to demonstrate their success on the field and excel in the classroom, as we chase district, region, and state championships. Our goal is to make Hayfield THE school in Northern Virginia, Virginia proper and the entire country.
This week’s quote comes from tennis great Roger Federer, “There’s no way around hard work. Embrace it. You have to put in the hours because there is always something you can improve on.” As tryouts end and teams are formed, it is important for our student athletes to remember that nothing is the finished product. Your serve percentage can always improve. Your completion percentage can always improve. Your shooting percentage can always improve. Your back tuck can always look cleaner. Your 5k time can always improve. The work makes the success worthwhile!
We look forward to our athletes, coaches and supporters winning on the field, courts, mats, track and in the pools, and in the classroom with class and HAWK PRIDE!
