Roadrunner Rundown

Principal's Message
Dear Families,
We are excited for families, new and returning, to get to know one another. We have enjoyed meeting new families at our recent tours and playdates. You may have noticed the recycled art Roadrunner sculptures in front of the marquee as you enter the building, these were created by the MRES class of 2025 and local artist Jenny Newberry. They are presently undergoing some refurbishing as the elements have taken a toll and soon will have a refreshed look. Feel free to take a closer look with your children to see the creativity of using random items to create such unique pieces of art.
We are appreciative to Wheat’s Landscaping Company who have graciously donated two days of landscaping and beautification along the front and Kiss & Ride part of the building! Nothing like a “fresh cut” to start the school year!
Returning families may only give the SR&R a passing glance before signing but we ask that all families put some time and attention into the updates below as they represent a significant change across our school district. We all want students to start off on the right footing and maintain that balance as it allows us to be Stronger Together.
Families are encouraged to review the updated FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document, which explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses in order to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Updates for the 2026-27 school year include new Universal Grade Matrices (UGMs)). UGMs are charts that show behavior expectations and school responses by grade level (K-3, 4-8, and 9-12). These at-a-glance resources (in Appendix D of the SR&R) are designed to make it easier for parents and caregivers to understand how schools respond to different types of behavior concerns.
Visit the SR&R webpage for more information and to review additional updates to the SR&R for the 2026-27 school year. Please log on to your SIS ParentVUE account and sign to acknowledge review of this document OR sign and return the Signature Sheet to your child’s teacher.

School Events and Information
Open House is Friday, August 21st
Come meet your child’s teacher and visit the classroom. We have staggered the times to allow for smaller groups in the classrooms at a time and to minimize challenges with parking. School supplies can be brought to the classroom, medications to our clinic, cash or checks to the cafeteria for deposit on students’ accounts.
- Session 1 - 9:00-9:30 am – A - L (alpha last name)
- Session 2 -9:45-10:15 am – M-Z (alpha last name
First Day of School - August 25th
School hours are 9:20 am-4:05 pm. Doors open for arrival at 9:05 am.
Back to School Night - evening of Wednesday, September 16th

Dismissal Packets
Packets with important dismissal information will be mailed to families next week. Please let us know how you would like your child to go home – bus rider, Kiss & Ride, or walker - by completing the Student Transportation Form (orange) that will be in the packet. Please return the form to your child’s teacher at Open House or send it to school with your child on the first day of school. Bus stops and route numbers will be emailed and uploaded to Parent View accounts during the week of August 10 when they become available from Transportation. It is important that we know the routine dismissal plan for every student.

School Supplies
School supply lists can be found on our school website school website. Supplies can be brought to classrooms during Open House or on the first day of school. Supplies ordered through the PTA will be delivered to classrooms prior to the first day of school.

FCPS Communications
New Student ID Cards Coming This Fall
This fall, every FCPS student will receive a student identification (ID) card as part of a division-wide effort to modernize school transportation, improve communication with families, and strengthen student safety while traveling to and from school.
Every student who rides the school bus will need to tap on and tap off the bus every day using their new student ID card. Families can help by reinforcing this new habit with their child.
All students at our school will need to wear their student ID cards throughout the school day. We will be handing out the new student ID cards the first few weeks of school. More details will be shared soon.
