More than 800 cowboys and cowgirls entered the arena at the Mount Isa Rodeo, vying to win some of the $170,000 in prize money and the coveted rodeo belt buckle. There were visitors from all across Australia, with the event recording predicted record crowds through the gate. Rodeo chair Mark Thompson says organisers are already looking to make next year bigger and better. It's the second event back in community hands since the rodeo went into voluntary administration in 2024.

Doomadgee music festival: A remote Gulf community is preparing to host its first-ever music festival, with local artists invited to help shape the event's identity. The inaugural Dumaji Muzik Festival will be held in Doomadgee in October, with organisers calling on artists from Doomadgee and across the Gulf to create the festival's official branding. Festival director Dale Mallett says the event was originally planned for next year, but strong community support convinced organisers to bring it forward.

Mining deposit: An Australian-based resources exploration company is finalising a drill program for a historical North West deposit, aiming to increase the grade of its copper resource. New Frontier Metals has a Memoriam of Understanding with Austral Resources, enabling the use of its processing facilities for the upcoming drilling at the Big One Deposit. Executive director Joel Logan says it'll be the first time drilling is be conducted on the tenement for about five years.
