If you look closely at the state of American higher education today, a troubling pattern emerges.

Institutions that were built to be sanctuaries for serious inquiry have largely abandoned their core mission. In place of the timeless pursuit of truth, our universities have elevated intellectual fads, fashionable political movements, and institutional activism.

The consequences are no longer academic. They are visible in the widespread erosion of institutional trust, the decay of civil discourse, and the systematic suppression of excellence.

I refuse to accept this as the permanent state of American life.

The University of Austin was founded on a simple, uncompromised principle: education must be centered on truth, not ideology.

Our students do not spend their days navigating partisan orthodoxies. They spend them grappling with the ideas, texts, and historical realities that shape human flourishing. We treat them as adults capable of carrying out difficult, serious conversations in a flood of cultural noise.

But as we continue to build this university from the ground up, I need to ensure our strategic priorities match the convictions of those who stand with us.
