For Round 30 of her quilt series, Jessica Ogden found inspiration while walking along the Brighton seafront. The project grew from her observation of the Victorian-era tiled front steps, each with its own unique pattern, found outside every doorway. The resulting compositions play on a palette of black and white. Variety comes not from color, but from the arrangement of simple shapes, primarily squares. Paying homage to Brighton’s history as an emblematic city of Mod culture, Jean Touitou decided to name each quilt after a song by the legendary band The Who.
