Dear Colleague, Have you heard the phrase "butterfly defect"? It's a play on the "butterfly effect," where a single small action in one part of the world can have significant consequences elsewhere. The "butterfly defect" refers to the vulnerabilities and systemic risks in our interconnected and rapidly changing world. In higher-ed leadership during these fractured times, the "butterfly defect" feels even more intense in several ways:
It’s impossible to navigate these challenges alone, and I’ve heard from countless college and university leaders that they’re looking for a space to learn, grow, and collaborate with peers. That’s why I’m excited to partner with The Chronicle of Higher Education to host our Fall 2026 Leadership Transformation Collaborative, a unique program grounded in fresh insights, practical tools, and peer community. Join me and a cohort of your peers for a semester-long pathway that will help you develop leadership habits that you can use throughout this upcoming semester and beyond. Through 15 weeks of structured virtual exercises, discussion sections, and curated content, our program will help support your continuous growth and hardwire important practices that will advance both your institutional initiatives and your career. Learn more on our website. I hope to see you as part of our community this semester. Together, we can turn the "butterfly defect" into opportunities for growth and innovation. Best wishes, Melanie Ho Higher Education Leadership and Strategy Consultant Founder, Strategic Imagination Program Leader, Leadership Transformation Collaborative |
