Monthly State Retail Sales

Today the U.S. Census Bureau released the May 2026 Monthly State Retail Sales Report (MSRS). The MSRS report combines data from Monthly Retail Trade Survey data, administrative data, and third-party data.

Within the report, year-over-year percentage changes are available for total retail sales by state and 11 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes beginning in January 2019. Nonstore retailers are excluded from the report.

June 2026 MSRS data will be published Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Intention to Revise: Monthly retail sales estimates on the Monthly Retail Tade Survey (MRTS) are scheduled to be revised on September 28, 2026, based on the results of the 2023 and 2024 Annual Integrated Economic Survey. These revisions will be reflected in the July 2026 Monthly State Retail Sales Report, scheduled for November 16, 2026.
