Christians forbidden to speak the truth about gender. Protect your free speech
|
|
|
|
Friend,
Picture this.
You're a Christian business owner who loves your community and your customers.
Your faith inspires everything you do, including how you treat each person who walks into your store.
But one day, you refer to a customer by what they deem to be "incorrect" pronouns. Because of your Christian convictions, you can't use biologically inaccurate
language, so you politely decline to do so.
-
You're reported to the state.
-
The state investigates you, finding that you violated the law—simply for using biologically accurate language and refusing to use the inaccurate language the
state prefers.
-
You're fined thousands of dollars, and there's even a potential for jail time.
My Alliance Defending Freedom client, Born Again Used Books, out of Colorado Springs, Colorado, faces this very risk every day that it opens its doors.

SAY NO TO COMPELLED SPEECH
|
|
Eric Smith owns Born Again and co-manages it with his wife, Sara. It's a Christian bookstore that sells Christian literature, homeschool curricula, and classics like The Chronicles of Narnia. Courageously, the Smiths have stepped up to challenge this exact dangerous, unconstitutional Colorado law, which has costly consequences.
That's why I'm writing to you today.
ADF is the world's largest legal organization dedicated to advancing your God-given right to live and speak the truth. Our track record speaks for itself, with
20 U.S. Supreme Court wins since 2011—including multiple landmark victories for free speech.
But today, government censorship is on the rise.
To put it simply, we need your help. Please make the best gift you can to stop growing government attempts to compel your speech that violates our biblical convictions.
Thanks to a generous ADF partner, every dollar you give will be doubled, while funds last.
HOW COLORADO'S LAW WOULD CENSOR YOU
Here's the legalese: Colorado redefined "gender expression" to include "how an individual chooses to be addressed" under its public accommodations law. That means
every business owner in Colorado is supposed to address customers, employees, and anyone else with pronouns and titles based on gender identity, not biological
sex.
If you own a business in Colorado, the state is trying to compel you to promote its radical agenda. If you violate the law, you could face $3,500 fines per violation
and up to four months in prison.
The government's censorship campaign is a costly attack on free speech and your right to speak the truth about biological reality.
No American, including you or the Smiths, should have to choose between violating the law and violating their Christian beliefs.

DON'T LET THE GOVT CONTROL YOUR WORDS
|
|
THIS IS THE LATEST IN COLORADO'S CENSORSHIP CAMPAIGN
Under the same law, Colorado dragged ADF client and cake artist Jack Phillips through the courts for years. Website designer Lorie Smith went to court to challenge
the law because it would force her to violate her beliefs. Both won at the U.S. Supreme Court.
Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped Colorado:
The fact that we have to fight these laws in court shows how serious the threat is. If the government succeeds, what happens in Colorado won't stay there.
Please make your best gift right now to stand with Born Again and the Smiths, resist government censorship, and work to secure the right of every American to speak freely–and your gift will be matched, dollar for dollar, while funds last.
For free speech,
Hal Frampton
Senior Counsel, Director of the Center for Conscience Initiatives
Alliance Defending Freedom
P.S. Fox News host Will Cain called what Colorado is doing "a free speech five-alarm fire." I couldn't agree more. This isn't just about one bookstore. It's about
your rights and the future of speech in America. Please give today to fight for your freedom of speech.
