It has been a happy first week of school at Deer Park!
Our Kindergarteners have toured the building while searching for clues about Pete the Cat's first day. Our returning students are all smiles as they settle back into routines and make new friends. We are looking forward to
a great school year together!

New Student ID Cards and Bus Navigation System

FCPS students at Deer Park who ride a school bus will receive a student identification (ID) card, zip tied to their backpacks as part of a divisionwide effort to modernize school transportation, improve communication with families, and strengthen student safety while traveling to and from school.

Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.

We ask for your patience! Bus drivers will begin checking in students soon and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Learn more about the new transportation system in and student ID cards.

Here Comes the Bus Mobile App

Know when your bus is approaching your stop. Here Comes the Bus® app is a school bus tracking app that provides real-time bus location. This helps parents and students get to the bus stop on time. Here Comes the Bus® utilizes our GPS data and available on multiple devices.

Find out more about Here Comes the Bus  here and how to sign up. The school district code is 28982.

Elementary Early Release Wednesdays

FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number of days has been reduced from eight to four.

Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

Parents are encouraged to have their student take their normal route home on early dismissal days. In the event of a hardship, we will ensure that every student has supervised activities at school and returns home at the regular time if that works best for your family.

Please view the dates for Deer Park's early release Wednesdays below. Dismissal time is 12:25 p.m. on the following dates:

October 21
December 2
February 10
May 5

Learn more about Early Release Wednesdays here.

Parents and caregivers may use the online verification system in SIS ParentVUE to confirm whether or not child care on the four early release Wednesdays will be needed. If your plans change during the school year, please notify your child’s school directly.

Lunch Time!

Help Your Child Navigate the Lunch Line

Check out some tips to help your child get through the lunch line quickly and have more time to eat:

  • Sign up for and add money to MySchoolBucks to purchase meals at school.
  • Apply for free and reduced-price meals. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should submit a new application as soon as possible, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

If your child has any food allergies, learn how to submit accommodations for dietary restrictions and allergens

Access menus for breakfast, lunch, and other school meals, as well as allergen and nutrition information.

Parents are welcome to come and have lunch with their student during their scheduled lunch time. Bring your ID and stop by the office first for a visitor's pass.
