Principal's Message
Hello Bruin Families and welcome to the 2026-27 school year! We have had a strong start and are excited to keep the momentum moving.
We look forward to meeting our Middle School families at Back-to-School Night next Tuesday starting at 6:30 PM. You will have the opportunity to walk your child's schedule—just like they do—moving from one class to the next every 7 minutes! To give you a clear look at their daily routine, we will follow their class schedule by walking through their odd period classes first, followed by their even period classes.
We also spent time this week meeting with our Juniors and Seniors, and will meet with our 7th–10th graders next week, to review Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). These presentations ensure every student understands expectations, rights, and support systems for a safe and productive school year. We encourage families to review the district's together at home.
Transitioning back into the routine of a new school year can be challenging for students and families alike. Please know that our teachers, counselors, and staff are here to support your child every step of the way. Reaching out early is always welcome, and we look forward to partnering with you for a fantastic year ahead!

Attendance Information
Here are our policies regarding attendance. The assigned offices and phone numbers are shown below.
If you need to report a full-day absence, please do one of the following:
- report the absence through SIS ParentVUE (preferred)
- call the Subschool Attendance line and leave a message
- send a note with your child prior to the day of absence
If you need to report a late arrival:
- call the Subschool Attendance line and leave a message
If you need to request an early pick-up, please do one of the following:
- send a note with your child to deliver to the Subschool before 8:00 am (preferred)
- call the Subschool office line and leave a message.
- please note that parents/guardians of middle school students will be required to come into the Main Office to show ID.
We have a change in our Middle School Subschools this year: they are now assigned by alphabet instead of by grade:
- Last name A-K is Subschool 1 (703-426-1110)
- Last name L-Z is Subschool 2 (703-426-1120)
Cell Phone Policy
Due to a new VA law passed earlier this year, FCPS has implemented a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy across all grade levels. This means no cell phones, cell phone accessories, and smart devices (including AirPods, earbuds, headsets, and smart glasses) must be turned off and personally stored in a backpack or locker away by all students for the entire school day.
If you need to reach your student for any reason during the school day, please call their subschool and they will relay a message for you.
School Hours and Open Gate Screening
Doors 1, 7 and 14 will open for students at 7:30 am.
To help keep our screening running smoothly, please help your students remember that certain everyday school supplies can alert a "false positive" and send students to secondary screening. Here are some general guidelines for purchasing school supplies, including some suggested alternatives.
One note for students is that zip-up binders will always need to go through secondary screeing.
Musical Instruments - students with instruments are encouraged to enter through Door 14 and proceed to the express instrument check line.
Laptop Only Lane - at the request of FCPS Safety and Security, this practice was discontinued and all students will be required to pass their laptop, binder, and like items to the staff at the detectors.
Student Photos
Our student photos days for 7th-12th grade are:
- Middle School: September 10 and 11
- High School: September 17 and 18
7th-10th graders will take their pictures during their PE classes and 11th graders will take their pictures during their English classes.

Student ID Cards
We have begun distributing student ID cards to all students this week and next.
For those who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services, cards should be brought to the bus each day. Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus.
Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Home Football Game Information
Tickets:
Seating, Parking & Entry:
- Limited parking available, park in designated spots only.
- Elementary and middle schoolers must be accompanied by an adult.
- Entry through main gate at top of stairs or side gate by lower turf.
- No re-entry.
- Students must be picked up within 30-minutes of the end of the game.
What You Can Bring:
- Clear plastic, vinyl, or pvc bags no larger than 12" x 6" x 12"
- Small clutch bag no larger than 6.5" x 4.5"
- Medical and diaper bags permitted but subject to inspection
What's Not Allowed:
- Backpacks
- Purses
- Fanny packs
- Tote bags
- Outside food and beverages
- Sporting equipment (balls, bats, sticks, etc.)
- Any item prohibited by FCPS Policy, or determined by event staff to present safety concerns
Halftime Fun:
- Enjoy performances by the LB Marching Band and Lake Braddock Varsity Dance Team!
Spectator Code of Conduct:
- Be a good sport and show positive behavior.
- No abusive language, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs.
- Stay in your designated seat and off the field.
- Respect players, coaches, fans, and officials.
- Remember - it's about the kids! Let the coaches coach and officials officiate.
- Follow directions from staff and security.
- Failure to comply may result in removal from future games.

Everything You Need to Do in SIS ParentVUE
Are you working your way through back-to-school forms and checklists? Make sure you have a SIS ParentVUE account for your family and log in to find important forms and updates.
- Be among the first to know about weather closings, bus delays, and other critical communications from your school and FCPS by providing your cell phone number and email in ParentVUE. To update your contact information in ParentVUE, click the “Online Packets” tab in the upper right of the screen, then click the “Online Verification/Update” icon.
- Submit daylong absences by clicking “Report Absence.”
If you do not have a ParentVUE account, contact your child’s school for an activation code and follow the directions on the SIS ParentVUE Account webpage.
Remember to Complete Permission Forms for School Resources
Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.

Opt In or Out to Student Devices Being Sent Home for Grades 1-6
New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student.
- If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
- If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.
Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.
Transportation Patience and Safety
Thank you for your patience as we all get used to new routines this school year. We appreciate our families following Kiss and Ride procedures and being patient while waiting for your child’s bus.
If your child’s bus is delayed, you may access the Bus Delay Notification System or use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to receive the delayed bus report. Email messages will be sent to announce significant bus delays. Please contact the Transportation Office at 703-446-2050 with any additional questions. For concerns after 5:30 p.m., contact the FCPS Office of Safety and Security at 571-423-2000.
Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive email messages about bus delays.
