Hello, Hawk Family!
We have had an outstanding week welcoming students back to the building and starting the 2026-2027 school year. Teachers have been engaging students in relationship building, providing hands on learning tasks, and laying the foundations for an awesome school year. On Monday, students will begin receiving their county provided laptops through their SOAR advisory class. Wishing all of our students and families a very restful weekend!
Go Hawks!
Jess Tippins
Principal, Holmes Middle School
We received exciting news this week regarding the proposed expansion of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) centers to every FCPS middle school. The School Board approved a timeline for community engagement, public hearings, and professional learning connected to the expansion. Holmes Middle School is currently included in Phase 2 of the proposal, which would begin with 6th grade implementation during the 2027-28 school year.
As part of this process, there will be a community meeting on Monday, October 26th, 2026 at 6:00pm to provide families with additional information and an opportunity to ask questions about what the proposed expansion could mean for Holmes Middle School. The School Board is expected to reconvene in December to vote on final approval of Phase 2 implementation for the 2027-28 school year. We know this is an important topic for many families in our community, and we will continue to share information and updates as they become available.

Please be mindful when requesting for your child to ride the bus with another student. For safety and verification purposes, the school requires written permission from both students’ parents before such arrangements can be approved. Permission emails should be sent to HolmesMiddle.Attendance@fcps.edu first thing in the morning on the day of the request.
Handwritten notes that are dated and signed by both students' parents will also be accepted.
Please note that students will not be issued bus passes without the required written permissions from both students' parents.
If you need to pick up your student early, please do so before 1:30 p.m. to avoid interrupting the safe dismissal process. Please note that doctor’s appointments are not considered emergencies.
