Office Updates
Welcome to the first issue of Audit Buzz for the new school year! In this issue, we kick off Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Audit Committee; highlight recent events; and offer a training opportunity.

We appreciate the continued cooperation and courtesy shown to our staff by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) management and employees during all audit engagements.
FY27 Audit Committee Kickoff
OAG welcomed our new Audit Committee member, School Board Member, Melanie Meren, as well as the other returning members of the Audit Committee.
At the first Audit Committee meeting (August 25) of the fiscal year, OAG presented the OAG FY27 Audit Committee Kickoff which provided an overview of the team and explained the holistic approach to risk assessment, internal audits, "See Something, Say Something", and outreach/education.

OAG Recent Events
OAG at 2026 Leadership Kickoff

OAG (also known as One Amazing Group) presented at the 2026 Leadership Kickoff event, to principals and school-based administrators. Participants learned about how school audit results and fraud, waste, and abuse cases could impact the schools' success. OAG promoted financial stewardship through the acronym of FIFA – F: Financial Integrity, I: Internal Controls, F: Fraud Prevention, A: Accountability.

OAG staff took the opportunity to raise audit awareness and promote the fraud, waste, and abuse hotline while onsite.

Participants that stopped by the OAG table had the chance to test their audit knowledge with trivia games and ask audit related questions for a chance to win OAG "swag".
Did You Know?
OAG aims at providing regular training to all staff members, covering topics related to mitigating financial and process risks to FCPS. OAG is a certified National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider, on behalf of FCPS. FCPS can award employees with CPE credits required to maintain professional certification status.
Course Details: By the end of this session, participants will be able to internalize ethical core competencies and values and apply such competencies over decision-making in their everyday work. There is no pre-requisite for this training. This is a Part II of the April 24 training. Employees are welcome to participate without joining the Part I training.
Format and Date/Time: Synchronous online training via Zoom, on December 4 (Friday), from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Three CPE credits will be awarded for the entire training.
