Welcome Back, Eagles!

What a wonderful first week of school! Across Oak View, our students engaged in countless activities designed for teachers to build relationships with and between students, develop friendships new and old, and create strong classroom communities. It has been fun to see our students laugh and learn together in community throughout the week. 

We are so proud of all of our students, whether they are returning Eagles or Eagles new to the nest. Being a student is not always easy, especially during the first few weeks as children learn new classroom expectations and routines. It takes energy, thoughtfulness, and hard work, and our Eagles have done a fantastic job!

Thank you to our families for your patience as FCPS Transportation works through the beginning-of-year adjustments and as we refine our Kiss & Ride procedures. We are grateful for your partnership and patience.

Labor Day Weekend Friday, September 4, and Monday, September 7, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.

Thank you, Troop 54105! Thank you to Girl Scout Troop 54105 for updating our Little Library! The original Little Library was donated by Girl Scout Troop 297, and we are incredibly grateful for the continued support the Girl Scouts have shown our Oak View community. Our students will love continuing to enjoy and share books in this refreshed space! Next time you are visiting the playground please check it out!

Student ID Cards for Oak View Bus Riders

We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus next week. ID cards should be worn or attached to your child’s backpack and brought to the bus each day.

Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time. Please note that students new to Oak View may not receive an ID yet, even if they ride a school bus. These will be printed as soon as possible.

We ask for your patience! Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

SEL Screener Parent/Guardian Notification

The Fall Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3 through 6 in October. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information, including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.

News from Mrs. Moreno-Dunk, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher

Families are invited to join us for our upcoming Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) informational sessions in the library:

• September 15 | 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.: Continuum of Services

An overview of FCPS AAP offerings for grades K–12. (Note: This meeting will not cover the full-time screening process in detail.)

• October 13 | 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.: Full-Time Referrals

An in-depth look at the identification and screening process for full-time AAP services.

Important Referral Deadlines

• October 15: Fall Full-Time Referral Forms due (for students in grades 3–6 who are new to FCPS since January 2026).
• December 15: Spring Full-Time Referral Forms due (for all students in grades 2–6).

Remember to Complete Permission Forms for School Resources

Families can grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.

Opt In or Out of Student Devices Being Sent Home for Grades 1-6

New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student. 

• If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by clicking “Save Selection.”
• If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by clicking “Save Selection.” 

Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.
