Good afternoon Newington Forest Families,
We had a wonderful first week of school here in the Forest!
Teachers worked with students to establish routines and expectations in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and at recess. We even practiced a fire drill this week, and students at every grade level did an amazing job!
A Special Guest
We welcomed a very special guest on the second day of school: Superintendent Dr. Reid! Our SCA President, Lillian Smith, and Vice President, Julianna Hope, helped to guide Dr. Reid to Mr. Drummond’s PE class, Mr. Drake’s art class, and Mr. Thorpe’s fifth-grade classroom.
Bus Riding Students
Some of our bus riders began the week with discrepancies in their routes, but we worked to resolve almost all of them by midweek. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we worked through these issues.
Speaking of bus riders, we plan to begin using the new student bus passes during the second week of school. Additional information about the rollout will be sent home to families before the passes are introduced.
FCPS Devices for Grades 3-6
Beginning this school year, families in grades 3-6 can opt out of having student laptops brought home from school. A blue paper form was sent home on Friday for parents/guardians to indicate - Yes, send the laptop home each day, or No, do not send the laptop home each day.
Please complete and return this form to the school so that we may document your decisions.
I hope your families enjoy a relaxing weekend!
Sincerely,
Angela Thompson Principal
 Great 1st Week, Knights!
Superintendent Dr. Reid's Visit on 8/25

Students may not participate in both Band and Strings because they meet at the same time. Fourth graders can only sign up for Strings.

Special Musical Performances
South County High School's Orchestra and Band students came by the Forest on Friday to share their love of performing, and to encourage our Knights to play an instrument this year.
The best part - some former Knights were among the high school performers! It was so great to have them back for the afternoon. Once a Knight, always a Knight!
