Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Friends of Marshall High School,
Thank you for a successful opening week. It is our collective partnership that makes a complex system with many moving parts run so smoothly.
Yesterday, I had the chance to meet with the Class of 2027 Executive Board. We talked through a few of their ideas for senior privileges, and they shared valuable feedback on how the school year is going from their perspective.
ID Badges & Cell Phone Policy: Many students received their ID badges in homeroom yesterday. Currently, badges were only distributed to students with an assigned bus route. We know some students still need a badge and are establishing a system for them to request one. Please rest assured that no student will be denied transportation for lacking a badge.
Additionally, students are doing a great job complying with the "no personal devices" policy from bell to bell. We have already noticed much more face-to-face interaction during lunch instead of students being glued to their phones
Game Night: Tonight is the season opener for our football team, with kickoff at 7:00 PM. Please say hello if you see me at the game!
Traffic & Parking Reminders: Here is where I need your help to keep our community safe and respectful:

Kiss and Ride: Located behind the school off Marshall Drive—not in the front parking lot, neighboring streets, or on Leesburg Pike.

Neighborhood Parking: Students who park in Marshall Heights risk being towed.

Dominion Way: Please do not stop, stand, or wait on Dominion Way. Our neighbors must be able to freely enter and exit their community.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your interim principal. I was 42 years old when I first took on the principalship at Marshall in 2005. At 63, I would be lying if I said I wasn't tired at the end of the day—but working with your students energizes me every single day.

Marshall Statesman Back to School Night
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 9th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM!
Join us at Marshall High School for our annual Back to School Night. This is a great opportunity to walk through your student’s schedule, tour the classrooms, and meet the teachers and staff who will be working with them through the school year.
We look forward to seeing our Statesman family there as we kick off a fantastic year together!
Senior SAT Sign-Up
On Wednesday, October 7th, Marshall High School will offer a School Day administration of the SAT to enrolled twelfth graders. FCPS will cover the cost of the test for all enrolled twelfth grade students. To help the school prepare for testing and ensure testing materials are ordered for your student, your 12th grader must complete the form below by Wednesday, September 2. The form can only be accessed by fcps students using their fcpsschools.net email account.

A translated version of the form content may be found on the SAT School Day Intent webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/43896). FCPS sites cannot accept walk-ins on the day of the exam.
All 10th and 11th graders will be given the PSAT on Wednesday, October 7th, during the school day. More information will be coming in mid-September.
Remember to Complete Permission Forms for School Resources
Families can now easily grant consent for their children to access a variety of school resources through the Parent Digital Consent system. This online tool can be accessed using your SIS ParentVUE account login. Parents can easily opt their child in or out of a variety of resources, including online educational tools, school counseling services, and more.

Opt In or Out to Student Devices Being Sent Home for Grades 1-6
New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student.
- If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
- If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.
Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.
