Dear Travel Fan, On many social media feeds lately, the idea of a “hot divorcée summer” has been hard to miss. The trend involves big hats, flowing dresses and luxe vacations, but also female empowerment. The writer Mya Guarnieri spent a weekend in Miami to see what it all means. We journeyed to two beautiful — and very different — European destinations this week. In Calabria, Italy’s deep south, we found gorgeous beaches, bustling local festivals and a turquoise sea. And in a remote corner of Portugal, a hiker encountered ancient oaks, rewilding efforts and prehistoric cave art. European river cruises have surged in popularity, but this summer has been a challenge for both cruise lines and passengers, with high temperatures and low water levels because of drought making some waterways impassable.
