Principal's Message

Greetings Laurel Ridge Families,

What an incredible first week of school we have had here at Laurel Ridge! The energy and joy throughout our hallways have been contagious, and our staff was absolutely thrilled to welcome our students back into the building. We were even honored by a special visit from our Superintendent, Dr. Reid, who walked our halls and left deeply impressed by the active teaching and learning already taking place on day one.

This year, our community is embracing a powerful new theme: Belong. Believe. Become. We are placing an intentional focus on ensuring every single child feels a deep sense of belonging, because when students know they are safe, valued, and connected, their potential to learn and grow becomes limitless. Our Lions also proved how capable and attentive they are by seamlessly navigating our very first practice fire drill on Wednesday, a great start to keeping our school safe!

Speaking of safety, I’ve been distributing reminders about neighborhood parking, expectations for walkers, and Kiss & Ride procedures.  Safety is our highest priority and some observed practices at arrival and dismissal put our students and families at risk of danger.  We ask that all walkers use the crosswalk, stay on the sidewalk, and refrain from walking across the bus loop.

Thank you for your incredible partnership, enthusiasm, and support in making this first week such a resounding success. Have a restful, safe weekend, Lions!

A Message From PTA:
T-Shirt Size Form Needed for All Students

Please help us to plan a GREAT year for students by taking just a few minutes to complete the PTA's "shirt size form" at https://forms.gle/ceYkNSbm4rQitsi76.

ALL students receive a free shirt during our Boosterthon fundraiser in October. We can only guarantee the desired size if the form is submitted by Friday, September 10th. You may also choose to add your contact information for the PTA-maintained Family Directory. This directory will be your go-to resource for planning play dates and birthday parties! It may also be utilized by class parents for communication and activities. This is school-wide and is different from any lists your class may be organizing. We plan to make it available on our website by late September. We will need one form response per student. If you have more than one student enrolled at LRES, please complete this form separately for each child so we can ensure accurate information for each student. For questions, e-mail us at hello@laurelridgepta.org

Student ID Cards for Laurel Ridge

Bus Riders

We have distributed student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus.

ID cards are attached to your child’s backpack and can be tucked into the backpack when not needed.  It should be brought to the bus each day.

Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.

We ask for your patience! Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Learn more about the bus navigation and student ID cards.

Opt In or Out to Student Devices Being Sent Home for Grades 1-6

New this year, families can opt out of having student laptops sent home with their student.

  • If you do not want your student to bring their FCPS-issued device home, please toggle the Opt Out button to a check mark and confirm by pressing Save Selection.
  • If you would like your student to bring their FCPS device home, no toggle action is needed. Confirm by pressing Save Selection.

Students whose families opt out will continue to have access to an FCPS-issued device during the school day. Please reach out to your student’s teacher to understand expectations for homework and any learning activities that may require access to technology outside of the school day.
