Weekly Update

Stallion Nation,

It was a strong opening week for the Stallions, highlighted by exciting wins in girls volleyball, golf, and football, along with hard-fought efforts across the board. Just as impressive has been the incredible support our student body and community have shown for one another. Our football program showed out in a strong way to support our home field hockey and volleyball teams, while a great group of students made the trip to Gainesville on Friday to cheer on the Stallions. Keep supporting one another, Stallion Nation!

Field Hockey opened the season at home Monday with a 1-0 victory over Hayfield. The Stallions then traveled to face perennial state contender Yorktown. In a weather-shortened contest, South County played a strong game but ultimately fell 0-3.

Football traveled to Gainesville on a beautiful Friday evening to begin the season. After a slow start and an early safety following a misplayed snap, the Stallions eventually found their rhythm. South County held the Cardinals scoreless the rest of the way while putting up 28 unanswered points to earn an exciting road victory.

Golf continued its strong start by hosting Lake Braddock at Laurel Hill. In their best showing of the season, the Stallions shot a team score of 163 to earn a one-stroke victory and improve to 2-1.

Boys Volleyball traveled to Woodson and battled the Cavaliers in a back-and-forth match. After falling behind 1-0, the Stallions fought back to take a 2-1 lead before ultimately dropping a tough five-set match, 3-2.

Girls Volleyball enjoyed one of its best opening weeks in many years. The Stallions swept Woodson at all three levels on Tuesday, including a convincing 3-0 varsity victory. On Friday, the varsity team traveled to Mount Vernon for the opportunity to play in front of the school’s full student body during the school day. In front of a packed house and raucous crowd, the Stallions won three straight sets to improve to 2-0.
