Message from Mrs. Castillo

First Day Family Photos

What a wonderful start to the school year! It was exciting to welcome our lions this week and see our hallways and classrooms filled with energy, enthusiasm, and lots of smiles. We look forward to building on this strong start in the days and weeks ahead.

Please remind your children that all devices must be off and away from 8:15 - 2:55.  Students may not take devices to lunch, recess, or bathrooms and use them during the day.

On Tuesday, all grade 1 - 6 students participated in ROAR assemblies where they learned all about our ROAR expectations and updates to SR&R. We encourage you to ask your child what ROAR stands for and how they can demonstrate these traits throughout school grounds and on the bus.  We are also proud of how well our students did during our first fire drill of the school year Thursday. They followed directions quickly, quietly, and safely, showing ROAR in action.  On Friday, our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders had a chance to hear the band, chorus, and orchestra from Marshall High School. It is awesome to welcome back some of our Lemon Road alumni for this tradition and to encourage our students to continue choosing musical opportunities.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for trusting us with your children each day. We are grateful to have you as part of our school community and look forward to a positive, engaging, and successful year ahead. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Advanced Academics Programs

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K to 12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.

Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:

  • Fall identification: Students in grades 3 to 7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15th.
  • Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2 to 7 may be referred by December 15th.

For more information, please contact Taylor Argue, AART, at targue@fcps.edu or visit the FCPS Advanced Academics Programs webpage.

FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services:

  • All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Test (NGAT).
  • Students in Grades 3 to 6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
  • Students in Grades 3 to 6 may retake an ability test one time. Families may request the ability test retake by contacting Jacquelyn Argodale, school testing coordinator, at jhargodale@fcps.edu by September 30th
