The Women's National Basketball Association should be championing women—after all, that's the first word in its name.
Instead, the co-owner of a team berated two teenage fans at a game, using profanity and calling them "insane." Why? Because they held a sign thanking player Sophie Cunningham for "speaking up for girls."
So much for female empowerment.
Just weeks later, the WNBA committed another blunder: A mother and daughter were told to cover up their XX-XY Athletics T-shirts or else be kicked out of the
game. The shirts promoted the biological reality about men and women and were deemed too "offensive."
It's absurd when you think about it: Four women were targeted and censored at women's basketball games ... for supporting women.
Meanwhile, the WNBA apparently has no problem allowing the opposite message. When Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve sported a "Trans Kids Belong" T-shirt during the game, she faced no pushback from the league.
This is a troubling pattern from the WNBA and its league partners. Fans who peacefully express their beliefs about protecting women's sports shouldn't be treated
like a problem.
So Alliance Defending Freedom is calling a foul: We sent a letter to the WNBA commissioner to tell the league to stop this troubling trend and ensure that fans can peacefully express their views at games in favor of women's sports.
