It’s tough to pick my favorite responses from the kids my colleague Callie Holtermann asked for predictions about the year 2050. Bennett from La Grange, Ill., gave us a solid contender. When asked, “Who will be running the country?” he said, “I think it might be me.” OK! Almost all of them — all age 10 at the time of their interviews — brought up hopes and fears about A.I. I especially liked Paige from Atlanta’s optimism about its limits though. “A.I. cannot rap,” she told Callie.
I also went ahead and asked my daughter and her 10-year-old friend what they think we’ll see in 2050, and was surprised to hear the same answer I was giving to adults many decades ago: “Flying cars.” I’m starting to lose confidence in that one, kid. Callie’s story is below, along with more of the week’s top articles about culture and the way we live today.
But first, make sure you’re signed up to be one of the first people to find out the 100 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century. Like our earlier lists of the best books and movies since 2000, hundreds of industry professionals voted, and starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to weigh in too. I’ll see you next weekend(er).
