Three news outlets are suing to regain access to the White House, claiming that Trump banning them from the building violates their First Amendement rights. CNN, MS NOW and Politico are suing Trump after he banned them from being at news conferences at the White House.

As he announced his outrageous, unconstitutional ban, Trump said, “There’s something wrong with a country that can allow people to write purposely negative stories,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, shortly after he announced his ban, “effective immediately,” in a post on Truth Social. “Now, if they want to write them, that’s fine, but I don’t have to let them into my — into the people’s house.”
He caught himself refering to the WH as “his” house.

This is a very serious thing he’s done, and it won’t stand. Trump is clearly anxious, angry and desperate about the midterms, as he should be.

I laughed out loud is disbelief when I heard this: Trump is now saying his huge arch that he wants to build for himself will “house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage”. In a post on social media, he said this was at the “strong request” of the military. This is a reason to build the thing? Same excuse as his ballroom idea.
I am assuming that the arch will not be built, that when the Democrats win back the House and Senate, this vanity project will not be allowed to go forward. I am also assuming Trump will not tear down the Kennedy Center. Thousands of protesters gathered over the weekend at the building to voice their dissaproval of Trump’s suggestion that it will be demolished. I hope the large crowds protecting the landmark building will remain for as long as it takes to keep the center safe from destruction.
Am I being too hopeful?
The Guardian has a very disturbing report on how the Trump administration is working with a number of countries around the world to accept immigrant detainees. 25,000 people have been deported by the Trump administration to countries that are not their own. Many are bussed to Mexico. Human rights lawyers describe these so-called third-country national arrangements as part of a “show of force” by the US intended to discourage migrants and asylum seekers from entering. 35 countries have an arrangment with Trump to accept the detainees, whom the administration claims are criminals. But the agreements with these countries states that they will NOT accept criminals.
I am very proud of New York’s governor. Gov Hochul is taking proactive steps to show contrast with the federal government when it comes to how aggressively the state is policing AI. Today, she is implementing the RAISE Act, New York’s landmark AI safety legislation that will go into effect in January, as well as the first major hire for the office overseeing the law. She sees an absence of leadership in Washington, and in a statement, Hochel said, “Donald Trump and Washington Republicans may be standing still as AI grows more unpredictable, but New York will not. When companies are building some of the most powerful technology in the world, people deserve to know what they’re doing to keep it safe, and those companies should be held accountable when things go wrong.”
