The decisions that change a life are almost never the dramatic ones.

They're quiet. Forgettable, even, in the moment.

Nobody stands at a podium and announces them. There's no music swelling in the background.

They look like an email you finally replied to.

Or a call you booked on an ordinary Thursday evening, when the easy thing, the comfortable thing, would have been to close the tab and tell yourself "another time, once things settle down."

I think about this a lot, because I can point to the exact one that changed things for me.

Not the recital I've told you about these past few weeks. That was just a date circled on a calendar, forced on me by the timetable.

Nobody applauded it. There was no stage for it, no audience, no mark in anyone's diary.

Just an ordinary shift I only understood looking back.
