Hey there,
On Monday I said that every organization – big and small – needs someone to take on a new responsibility: the Ethical AI Leader. Since then I’ve walked you through the program we built to train them.
The Ethical AI Leadership Project helps thoughtful people bring everyone around them along in adopting AI responsibly, and grow their own careers doing it. Nine modules and 40 lessons, all available the day you enroll. A year in our community of practice with 2,000+ students. A certification you earn with a real plan. And a mindset that starts with how AI can help everyone, not who it can replace.
I put together all the details for you here.
Enrollment closes tomorrow night, so today I want to answer the questions that usually decide it.
Ethical AI leadership isn’t a job title a company hands to one “AI person.” It’s a responsibility that needs to live in every team, every department and every layer of an organization. You don’t need to be promoted first, switch careers, or get permission. It adds importance and responsibility to whatever you’re doing right now:
- If you’re an individual contributor, you become the person your team checks with before they paste something sensitive into a chatbot.
- If you manage people, you bring your team a process instead of a vague warning.
- If you run a business, you get an AI plan your staff and customers can trust.
- If you’re on a board, in a classroom or at a nonprofit, you get everyone to an ethical baseline so they can focus on the mission.
The people who take this on usually weren’t asked to. They’re the ones who thought it through and cared enough about the people around them to do something about it.
What does the certification actually do for me? It’s how that responsibility becomes visible. You earn it with a capstone: a 4-page Ethical AI Plan for a real group of people. You map how AI is being used around you, give each use a verdict (proceed, pause with safeguards, or stop), name the risks, and write the rules. An instructor reads it and sends written feedback, usually within a week. At your current job, that plan changes how people see you. For your career, you can post the certification to LinkedIn or add it to your résumé, and the next time a manager, a client or an interviewer asks how you think about AI, you’ll have a plan you built yourself.
Is it live, or can I go at my own pace? Self-paced, start to finish. Every lesson, activity and worksheet unlocks the day you enroll, with no drip schedule. One payment covers lifetime access to the recorded material, a year of updates, and a year in the community. Nothing to renew, nothing to cancel.
How long does it take? About 10 to 12 hours all in. The workshops run about an hour each, the activities 20 to 60 minutes, and the capstone plan about 90 minutes. Two hours a week gets you through in about six weeks.
Do I need to be technical? No. Everything is in plain English and built for beginners. If you can use a browser, you’re ready.
I already use AI every day. Will it be too basic? It works on two levels. If you’re new, it starts from the ground up. If you’re a daily user, the governance, risk and policy material in Modules 8 and 9 came out of our flagship programs for people who advise companies on AI. That part isn’t beginner material. That said, if you’re a machine-learning engineer, this won’t push your frontier. It isn’t meant to.
I’m skeptical of Big Tech and the AI hype. Is this cheerleading? No. The mindset we teach is optimistic about what AI can do for people and skeptical of anyone selling doom or hype. We cover the hard parts (jobs, energy, privacy, bias) directly. The goal isn’t to get everyone using more AI. It’s to make sure the AI your organization does adopt helps the people it touches.
What AI tools do I need? You can start entirely with free tools. Many students eventually pay for one they love, often around $20 a month, but that’s your call.
Can my employer pay, and can I bring my team? Yes to both. The Team plan (4 to 9 people) is 10% off every seat, and the Workplace plan (10 or more) is 20% off with three live coaching calls for your whole group.
How does it compare to your flagship programs? It’s deliberately more compact and entirely self-paced: no cohort, no schedule. But it’s held to the same standard, built the same way by the same people. It takes the governance and policy material from the flagships and rewrites it for someone who has a job, a team and a cause rather than a client list.
And my favorite question – why learn this here, as opposed to piecing it together yourself?
Well, you’ve probably already tried a few of these. I have too. That’s why we build things differently here at Innovating with AI.
So let’s take a quick tour of the options…
YouTube. There are a few real gems on there. But YouTube makes its money when you keep watching, so every part of it is built to keep you clicking, not to get you finished. You wade through a pile of junk and distraction for each gem, and the AI videos go stale fast. And almost none of it teaches you to lead anyone else through the change.
The AI companies’ own training. OpenAI, Anthropic and the rest make good free trainings, so start there if you like. But they exist to get you using more. They’ll never tell you when AI is the wrong call, which uses to pause or stop, or how to write rules that protect the people on your team. It’s a chef who’ll never critique the meal.
Your organization’s compliance module. If you have one at all, it’s usually a list of things not to do, written to protect the organization. Nobody finishes it feeling more capable, and nobody finishes it ready to lead.
The influencer threads & giant course libraries. All hat, no cattle. Big followings, thin substance, and a suspicious number of them were crypto influencers the week before. You get a prompt to paste, not a way of thinking, so the next time a hard question comes up at work, you’re back at zero.
The Ethical AI Leadership Project is the opposite of all of them: one path, in the order that makes each piece explain the next, with a community of practice alongside you, a certification that proves what you can do, and a mindset that puts the people around you first.
And here’s my favorite part: our unconditional 60-day guarantee.
More than 2,000 students have joined our programs. The Ethical AI Leadership Project is built to the same standard, and it comes with a simple promise, with no fine print:
If it isn’t right for you, email us any time in the first 60 days and we’ll refund you in full. For any reason at all. No hoops, no hard feelings.
Sixty days is long enough to go through the whole curriculum, run the privacy checkup, score the AI uses around you, meet the community, and start your plan. The only way to really know whether this changes how your workplace handles AI is from the inside, so I’ve made getting inside risk-free.
So you don’t have to be certain today. You just have to be curious enough to spend a few hours finding out, knowing every dollar comes back if it turns out not to be for you.
