here are few things people regularly say they use it for:
|

everything you save, in one place. save a link while you're in Chrome, open it in Safari later. the browser you saved from doesnt lock you in.
|

fuzzy search to find things. ⌘⌃K from anywhere, start typing, and it searches your open tabs, your saved links, recents and history across every browser at once.

instant access to the sites you open every single day. pin them, and ⌘⌥1 through ⌘⌥9 opens them instantly. those shortcuts need turning on in Preferences first.

work and personal, kept apart. spaces are a separate set of links each. switch and the sidebar changes with it.
|

Quick access to Finder folders. drag one in and it sits there next to everything else.
|
