Many are posting online the words, “I am Jane Doe” in support the young woman in the Cornell 7 gang rape case. Let’s hope that we can change things so that we have no more Jane Does. We have to think it’s possible. Phone call audio after the night in question with some the 7 men and the woman they allegedly raped have been released. The calls reveal efforts on the part of some of the men involved to control the narrative of what happened that night. Police, universities, society—we all need to talk about this and stop others from shaping false narratives in situations of sexual abuse and rape. I drew the above because I can’t stop thinking about it. Last night, I heard that even Republicans are talking about how the midterms could be a “bloodbath,” according to CNN’s Erin Burnett. Politico reports the same, saying hopes are dimming for the GOP. So, Trump thinks he can lie his way to victory again, but people are on to him. Two-thirds of Republican candidates in US House and Senate races have broken with Trump or minimized ties with him, a Reuters review found. Trump is pushing a very false (is that possible? I think it is with him) narrative as he criss-crosses the country trying to help GOP candidates in the midterms. They do not want his help. I admit I’m nervous. We all have ptsd when it comes to polls, we are not inclined to believe them anymore. But more and more media outlets are reporting the same trends and numbers: bad news for the GOP. And we see it in the behavior of the candidates; they don’t want Trump around. At a rally in Nebraska just the other day, Trump suggested that maybe Iran could “take out” LA and San Diego. California Govenor Gavin Newsom called the remarks “dangerous – if not treasonous – putting a target on two of our biggest cities and one of America’s largest naval hubs.” Trump on the rally trail leads to horrible sound bites for GOP candidates to have to deal with, and the world has to deal with dangerous, horrible words. Trump does not plan to reimburse taxpayers for the horrible propaganda ads. Although he says he will use his own money for any more going forward, I am not inclined to believe him. A group of people detained inside a privately run ICE jail in Georgia have launched a mass hunger strike this week to protest against their prolonged detention and the facility’s conditions. I had no idea there were privately run detention centers. The prisoners, ranging from Russia, China, Sudan, Afghanistan, Nepal and others, released and an open letter and a video. “Many of us have tried every available legal path to seek release from detention” but without success, they say, adding that their letter is for those who believe in “fairness and human dignity. Innocent people can remain in detention for very long periods, without any individualized finding that they are dangerous or likely to flee,” the signatories complain. Thanks for being here, all. I hope you have a good Wednesday!! |
