5-Bullet Friday

Hi All!

Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring.

This edition is brought to you by The Way, the meditation app I use most often. Be sure to see their offer in the P.S.

Free documentary I’m watching

Frank Miller: American Genius, directed by Silenn Thomas. Frank Miller is a comic book visionary best known for his work on Daredevil, The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, and 300. This free documentary covers ~50 years of Frank’s career. It charts his path from Vermont to New York, from the world of comics to the craziness of Hollywood, and from meteoric rise to near self-destruction. It also includes cameos from Robert Rodriguez, Zack Snyder, Jim Lee, Neal Adams, and Stan Lee.

For more Frank, watch the two of us do a deep dive on his creative process here.

Podcast I’m enjoying

Stephen Fry on Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth. I love Stephen Fry, the actor, writer, and comedian. He’s too complex to categorize. He performed the audiobook of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which quickly became one of my all-time favorites. Last week, I was hunting for a new book featuring his mellifluous voice, but then a thought occurred: why not get to know Stephen in his own words? As I’ll often do, I cross-referenced a few LLMs and then chose a few interviews. I chose the above for its biographical and comedic strength, and it delivered.

Comfy slip-ons I’m using

Glerups. As things cool off, I wear Glerups indoors practically 100% of the time. I love them. You can see me sporting them in this photo.

Gadget that pleases my OCD

Wall Mount Charger for Philips Sonicare. Like many of you, I cannot stand a tangle of cables on a surface I use a lot. I own a Sonicare toothbrush for many reasons, but the charging station has always bothered me. This little swap has made the sink area beautifully usable again.

Sometimes it’s the little things!

To explore oral care for cognitive health, I suggest checking out Dr. Tommy Wood.

Quote I’m pondering

“Great artists make the roads; good teachers and good companions can point them out. But there ain’t no free rides, baby. No hitchhiking. And if you want to strike out in any new direction—you go alone. With a machete in your hand and the fear of God in your heart.”

P.S. Deal of the Week — The Way meditation training program. 10 minutes a day might just change your life...

I’ve explored a lot of meditation practices over the years. My current hands-down favorite, and the easiest way to get back in the habit, is The Way, taught by Zen Master Henry Shukman. Using the app for just 10–20 minutes a day has reduced my anxiety more than I would have thought possible with any app. Try it for a week, and I think you’ll notice something similar. Here are 30 days for free.

The Way leads you down a single, long-term path that covers all the key areas of a deep and fulfilling meditation practice. It’s an easy and calming way to find more ease and calm. There’s no overwhelming menu of stuff or meditation du jour, just Henry taking you on a logical progression of lessons, one manageable bite at a time. You’ll be learning skills you can actually take into your daily life. Henry’s sessions will become something you look forward to. He’s appeared on my podcast twice and is always a listener favorite. I recently chose to invest in The Way, given all the above, and I’ve been working with Henry and his team to make the app as good as humanly possible. I’ve probably sent a hundred notes on the product, and they’ve been improving it each and every week.

Now, subscribers to 5-Bullet Friday can try 30 days for free, no credit card required. Just go to TheWayApp.com/Tim. Try it for a week, and I think you’ll be more than pleasantly surprised.
