They call it the Four Moors.
Legend says that in 1096, during the Reconquista, Saint George appeared on the battlefield and helped the King of Aragon defeat four Moorish kings.
So they put the kings’ heads on the flag.
Every time I ride past one, it makes me think about sovereignty.
A flag tells you who controls a place. An army conquers a territory… and plants a flag in the ground.
So ask yourself: Who controls your time? Who controls your money? Who decides where you go, what you do and who you spend your days with?
If you don’t plant a flag… someone else will.
It also makes me think about identity.
Every flag tells a story. Sardinia’s is pretty simple: invaders took our land… so we took their heads.
A lot of us are living inside a story someone else wrote for us.
