Yesterday, a subscriber wrote that she was going to a protest about the Cornell Seven rape case, and wondered if I had any good visuals for a sign. The above drawing is something I had thought of doing, but just hadn’t yet. It’s a version of my #MeToo drawing, which I share at the bottom of this post along with thoughts on cultural misogyny. Feel free to use this or any of my drawings on protests signs. I love that my work is used this way. Musk is pouring $276 million into the midterms trying to save Republicans’ Senate majority with some of the largest donations in American political history. It’s very worrisome, to be honest. We have not experienced this kind of money influx into an election, so we can’t be sure what kind of effect it will have. He also contributed to these smaller places:
A spokesman for Musk’s Super PAC, called America PAC, said: “If Democrats take control of Washington and win key gubernatorial and attorney general races this November, then America risks becoming a socialist, woke and borderless country. These robust investments have allowed the G.O.P. apparatus to get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history.” One wonders what this money is buying. The Times reports one way: putting flyers at voters doors. Some have a warning: “Radical Democrat socialists are winning elections all across America. Could Texas be next?” I question whether this kind of rhetoric will really make a difference; most people know it’s propaganda. Voters are sick of it all (and Trump), and tired of overpaying at the pump and grocery stores. They just may not vote. Remember those horrible ads that the Trump people ran recently, the ones with dictator-like imagery and words? Paid for with taxpayer money, they were bipartisanally condemned for their overtly political tenor. A judge has ordered that they cease. Trump was just about to run another one this week, and the judge has ordered that the whole series of ads be barred. On Saturday Night LIve this past weekend, the host said something really shocking, and not in a good way. “Schitt’s Creek” star Dan Levy is calling out Shane Gillis’ “Saturday Night Live” monologue, saying that “more men need to be standing up in opposition to it.” Here is what Gillis said: “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” he said. “Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe [it]. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. You’ve seen the shorts? They’re those neon, like, artificial bait-colored [shorts], and the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole. And don’t look! You’re not allowed to look.” Dan Levy posted on Instagram Reel: “Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists,” Levy began. “There’s a difference there. By the way, I’ve seen more men’s nipples at the gym than I’ve ever seen women showing their bodies off…. I’m speechless that something like that can exist on live national television. And to be perfectly honest, more men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it’s complacency that has created the environment in which women are sexually assaulted and it’s a ‘conversation’ as opposed to a ‘crime.'” “This is not a women’s issue, this is an everybody issue.” “Because the more that men objectify women in the media, the more that other men see them as objects and treat them as objects,” he concluded. “They are not objects. They are superior human beings to men, OK? And I’m sorry if this gets me in trouble with the internet, but fuck.” I suggest you follow Dan Levy on Instagram, make we can make his post viral. @instadanjlevy Many men have come out publicly against the Cornell Seven’s alleged gang rape of Jane Doe. That’s a real change from when I was young. Many more men are openly identifying as feminists now, and this is good. I have said for decades that Hollywood and Madison Avenue (the old way of saying advertisers) are both major obstacles standing in the way in the fight for women’s equality. Any pushback in media, any pro-feminist ads or movies, gets swallowed up. Shame on you, SNL. Thanks for being here! Have a great Monday. It continues to be gorgeous weather here in the Northeast. |
